Literally

We spent the 4th of July weekend at the Jersey shore and the weather was phenomenal! Brian was determined to get Matty's feet wet (literally) in the ocean. The air temperature was around 80, but the water temperature was 68 degrees.

Matty feeling tremulous about this thing called the "ocean":

I told Brian that maybe Matty was a little young and he wasn't going to like the cold water. Sure, it felt great after you got over the initial shock of the temperature, but Matty wasn't going to wait around for that. Still, Brian felt it was important to get Matty used to the water:

Well, as I suspected, Matty was not amused. He screamed when his feet hit that frigid salt water and just wanted out of there. Brian persisted, but Matty did not grow accustomed to the water and did not want to be up there.
We brought him back to the blanket and I went to change his diaper, which I was sure was soaked from all the excitement. What I soon found out was that Brian dipping Matty's feet in the ocean (literally) scared the s*** out of him! Poor baby!

After all that, Matty fell asleep sitting up! He couldn't even stay awake on the short walk from the house to the beach! He spent most of the afternoon snoozing under the beach umbrella.
